Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University sophomore Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. It is Kaestner's first-ever weekly award.
Kaestner tallied 11 goals in the season's first two games, surpassing the 10 goals she netted during her entire freshman season. The Trappe, Md. native also dished out three assists for a total of 14 points on the week.
Kaestner set new career-highs with six goals and two assists in the season-opening win over GW before once again leading the team with five goals in the BIG EAST opener, a 16-9 win over Loyola on Saturday.
Eight of her 11 goals have come in the second half.
The tenth-ranked Hoyas won two games last week, edging George Washington, 11-10 on Wednesday before the 16-9 win over Loyola on Saturday.
It is the second straight season that a Georgetown player posted 11 goals through the first two games (Coco Stanwick).
Weekly Notes ... Junior Jordan Trautman (Mystic, Conn.,Loomis Chaffee) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after leading the Hoyas with six ground balls and four caused turnovers in a 2-0 week. Trautman helped hold Loyola to one first-half goal. She has started in every game of her career.
-- Tenth-ranked Georgetown won both its games last week starting the season 2-0 for the third time under fourth-year head coach Ricky Fried.
-- Georgetown saw six players make their first career starts over the first two games of the season, including sophomore GK Caitlin Formby (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep).
-- Sophomores Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and Kaestner have assisted on each others goals three times this season. Kaestner leads the team with 11 goals and 14 points while Ford ranks second with seven goals and three assists.
-- In her first career game on Saturday, freshman Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) netted two goals and four assists. The four assists is the Hoyas' single-game high this season.
