Georgetown Men's Lacrosse Hosts Delaware on Wednesday

March 11, 2008

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's lacrosse team returns home on Wednesday, March 12, hosting Delaware in a key non-league matchup for both schools. Face-off at the Multi-Sport Field is slated for 3:30 p.m.

The Hoyas enter Wednesday's game with a 1-2 overall record and a 1-0 mark in the ECAC Lacrosse League, while the Fighting Blue Hens enter the game with a 5-0 mark, including three against teams that were nationally-ranked.

Georgetown lost a hard-fought 9-8 double overtime decision at Syracuse on Sunday. The Hoyas led 7-4 in the fourth quarter, but the Orange tied the game at 7-all. A goal from freshman Max Seligmann (Essex Falls, N.Y./Delbarton) gave GU an 8-7 lead, but Syracuse tied it and eventually won in the second overtime period.

The meeting with Delaware will be the seventh meeting all-time between the schools. Georgetown leads the head-to-head series, 6-0, and has won all three meetings in the District. Last year, Andrew Baird (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) scored three goals, while Andrew Brancaccio (Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Prep) and Craig Dowd (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) scored two times as the Hoyas broke a 7-all tie with two gals in the fourth quarter for a 9-8 win.

Senior Brendan Cannon (Haverford, Pa./The Haverford School) leads Georgetown in scoring with six goals and three assists for nine points, while Brancaccio is second on the team with five goals. Dowd is third on the team with two goals and three assists for five points, while Baird is fourth with three goals and one assist for four points.

Senior goalie Miles Kass (Rye, N.Y./Hotchkiss) carries an 8.06 goals-against-average and has made 42 saves in three games.
