Washington, D.C. - Three Georgetown University women's lacrosse standouts earned three weekly awards late Monday afternoon after the Hoyas posted wins over two ranked opponents last week.
Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Formby (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week while sophomore midfielder Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Freshman attacker Jordy Kir (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) was named womenslax.com Rookie of the Week.
Formby posted new career-highs with 10 and 11 saves, respectively in the Hoyas' win at No. 15 Denver and No. 12 Hopkins last week. Formby made a huge save in the first OT session at Denver and then the sophomore forced Hopkins into just 2-12 shooting on free position opportunities. Formby has 37 goals in the Hoyas's five games.
Kaestner posted eight more goals last week and now leads the team with 21. She also led the team with six ground balls, seven draws and nine caused turnovers in the two games. Kaestner netted a hat trick, including the game-winner in the OT win at No. 15 Denver before recording team highs with five goals, four ground balls and five caused turnovers in the 12-10 win at No. 12 Hopkins . Kaestner, who had 10 goals all of last season, leads the team with 21 goals, 25 points, four free position goals and 14 caused turnovers. The sophomore has at least three goals in four of the team's five goals
Kirr posted nine points in the two victories. Kirr had team-bests six points (1g, 5a) as Georgetown topped No. 15 Denver, 12-11, in overtime. Kirr then tallied a goal and two assists in GU's win at No. 12 Hopkins. Kirr ranks third on the team in points with six goals and 16 assists.
The Hoyas, 5-0, are off to the best start under fourth-year head coach Ricky Fried's career.
Ninth-ranked Georgetown travels to take on No. 5 Duke on Saturday, March 15 in a non-league tilt that starts at noon.
