No. 3 Terps Topple No. 9 Georgetown, 14-7

College Park, Md. - The third-ranked Maryland (13-2) Terps outshot the visiting Hoyas 15-8 in the first half and the Terps took a commanding 9-2 lead at halftime en route to a 14-7 victory over the No. 9 Georgetown Hoyas (9-5) on Wednesday night. The Hoyas closed to within 9-6 with 16 minutes to go in the game but Maryland scored five consecutive goals to pull away.

Maryland won its 11th straight game while Georgetown trailed at halftime for the fifth time this season.

Georgetown received two goals from freshman Allie Hubschmann,who made her first career start, and classmate Jordy Kirr. Kirr also dished out two assists.

Georgetown scored two goals in the opening five minutes but Maryland scored nine straight goals to close the for a 9-2 halftime lead.

Sophomore Ashby Kaestner won the game's first draw and Kirr finshed a controlled offensive possession with an unassisted goal.

Junior defender Jordan Trautman caused a turnover in the defensive end and senior Patty Piotrowicz scored off a Kirr feed for a 2-0 GU lead at 25:23.

Maryland then won draws and controlled possessions for the remainder of the half while the Hoyas were plagued by nine turnovers.

Senior Kelly Kasper scored first for Maryland with senior Lauren Cohen earning asn assist at 25:02.

At 23:24 Dana Dobbie tied the game at 2-2 tipping in a rebound after GU keeper Caitlin Formby blocked a shot.

Casey Magor scored unassisted at 20:55 for a 3-2 Maryland lead, their first of the game.

A free position shot was originally blocked but Magor scooped the ball and fired in a goal all in one motion.

Cohen then scored three consecutive goals in a two-plus minute span as the home team went ahead, 6-2 with 17:50 to go in the half.

Maryland was seven of the first half's 12 draws.

Georgetown gathered some momentum, scoring the first four goals of the second half to claw to within, 9-6.

Freshman Maggie Trautman took the first three draw controls of the period.

Hubschmann scored on a free position goal in the opening seconds of the second stanza.

On the ensuing Hoya possession Ford scored on a wrap-around goal with Kirr earning an assist as Georgetown closed to 9-4 with 26:44 to go in regulation.

Piotrowicz made a terrific defensive play and fought for a ground ball to re-gain possession for the Blue and Gray. Seconds later, Morley scored on a free position goal as GU closed to within, 9-5 with 21:12 left in regulation.

Georgetown got within 9-6 with 16:37 on another free position goal by Morley following a defensive three seconds foul against the Terps.

Maryland called timeout to slow the Hoya surge and the Terps came out of the timeout with a quick goal for a 10-6 advantage with 14:59 to go.

Terp senior Lauren Cohen finished with four goals and an assist while Dana Dobbie tallied three times.

It was the first time since the 2000 regular season that five or more goals was the difference between the teams.

Georgetown hits the road this weekend when the Hoyas travel to Storrs, Connecticut for a meeting with the Huskies of UConn in BIG EAST action. Gametime is set for 1 p.m.
