South Bend, Ind. - Five Georgetown University women's lacrosse standouts earned All-BIG EAST accolades as announced at the league's 2008 Pre-Championship Banquet inside the South Bend Marriott on Thursday night. Junior defender Jordan Trautman (Mystic, Conn./Loomis Chaffe), and sophomores Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) earned a spot on the First Team while sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Formby (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and freshman Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) garnered Second Team honors.
All five Hoyas are first time all-league honorees.
Trautman, who was named to the All-BIG EAST preseason team in 2008, earns first team accolades after leading the team with 40 ground balls (2nd in league with 2.5 GB/G) while ranking second on the squad with 26 caused turnovers. Trautman has started in 51 straight games since her arrival on the Hilltop and ranks sixth on the team with 15 draw controls.
Ford earns First Team honors after ranking second on the team in goals (34) and points (49) in 2008 following a freshman season when she totaled two goals and an assist. Ford posted at least three goals in eight of the team's 15 games and ranked ninth in the league with more than 3.2 points per game. Ford tallied a career-high seven points (4 G, 3 A) vs. BIG EAST opponent Loyola.
Sophomore midfielder Ashby Kaestner wins a spot on the league's First Team after starting in every game and leading the team and with 43 goals while ranking 29th in the nation with 2.87 goals per game. She had eight straight multi-goal games to start the season (11 overall) and posted a career-high six goals in the season-opening win at GW. Kaestner took home BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors on Feb. 5 after tallying 11 goals in the season's first two games, surpassing the 10 goals she netted during her entire freshman season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Formby earns Second Team accolades in her first season as a full-time starter. Formby saw just 5:29 worth of playing time as a freshman but has posted an 8.61 goals-against-average, ranking 9th in the nation in 2008. Formby is averaging 8.0 saves per game and in both of the Mason and Loyola (Md.) games, the Towson native yielded just one goal in the first half. Formby made a career-high 12 saves in victories vs. William & Mary and vs. No. 4 Virginia and has six different double-figure save efforts this season.
Kirr is one of 12 student-athletes on the Second Team. Kirr started in 14 of the 15 games and handed out 29 assists to lead the nation's freshmen in helpers. Kirr ranks third on the team with 44 points. Kirr has posted seven multi-assist games this season with three different five-assist outings and already ranks third on Georgetown's single-season assist list (29) with at least two games to go.
The 2008 championship will feature No. 1 seed Syracuse (13-2, 5-0 BIG EAST) against No. 4 seed Rutgers (7-9, 2-3 BIG EAST) at 5:30 p.m. eastern time on April 25. No. 2 seed Notre Dame (11-5, 4-1 BIG EAST) follows against No. 3 seed Georgetown (10-5, 3-2 BIG EAST) at approximately 7:45 p.m. eastern. For the second straight season, the same four teams have qualified for the championship and the semifinal matchups mirror those of the 2007 championship.
Both semifinal games will be streamed live online for free at www.bigeast.tv. CBS College Sports will nationally televise the BIG EAST Women's Lacrosse Championship game at noon ET on April 27.
