Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University junior forward Toni Marie Hudson (Coral Springs, Fla./Stoneman Douglas) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while also being named to SoccerBuzz Magazine's Elite Team of the Week, and freshman forward Samantha Baker (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson) was named to the Weekly Honor Roll on Monday by the league offices. This is the second BIG EAST weekly award of Hudson's career, while Baker has earned two weekly honors this season. Their selections mark the fourth consecutive week a Hoya has been recognized by the league and the second time two members of the Blue & Gray have been honored during the same week.
Hudson is currently in the midst of her best offensive season as a Hoya, leading the BIG EAST in goals (8) and points (19). She is currently tied for fourth on the single-season goal scoring list and needs two more to crack the top-10 all-time on the Hilltop. Hudson is also tied for 10th on the single-season points list, while needing 11 points to crack the top-10 career list. This past weekend, she scored the first two goals in the team's 3-0 victory at Villanova and recorded the game-tying tally on a penalty kick in the 2-2 tie with Penn.
Baker also played a large part in this past weekend's offensive output, handing out two assists against Villanova and recording a helper against Penn. All three of her assists came off throw-ins and were the first ones of her GU career. She is currently second on the team in points (11) and goals (4) and tied with Hudson for third in assists (3).
The Hoyas, who just broke into the latest Soccer America National Rankings this week at No. 24, continue BIG EAST play this Friday evening at 7 p.m. when they travel to Seton Hall and then on Sunday at home against Rutgers at 1 p.m.
