Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad was selected seventh in Lacrosse Magazine's 2009 Preseason Poll. The rankings were compiled by the magazine's staff after consulting with select coaches nationwide. The Hoyas finished the season ranked 10th by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association and return nine starters in 2009.
Georgetown was selected seventh in Division I with just one BIG EAST squad, Syracuse, ahead of it. Of the 20 ranked squads, eight are on GU's schedule this season. The Hoyas will host preseason No. 1 Northwestern on March 7 and also host No. 3 Duke at Multi-Sport Field on March 14. Other ranked opponents on the Georgetown schedule are No. 2 Syracuse, No. 8 Maryland, No. 10 North Carolina, No. 11 Notre Dame, No. 18 Denver and No. 20 Johns Hopkins.
The Hoyas return nine starters this season including All-Americans Ashby Kaestner (Tappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul), Jordan Trautman (Mystic, Conn./Loomis Chaffe School) and Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep). Kaestner led the squad in scoring with 65 points (52 goals, 13 assists) and Trautman had a team-best 45 groundballs in the midfield.
Georgetown opens the season on February 21 hosting George Washington at Multi-Sport Field at 1 p.m.
