Oct. 16, 2009

Final Stats

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University field hockey team (1-14, 1-3 BIG EAST) fell to Villanova (8-5, 2-2 BIG EAST) 5-0 on a cold, rainy afternoon at the William I Jacobs Recreational Complex, as the Wildcats out shot the Hoyas 18-6.

The Hoyas and Wildcats played the first ten minutes of the match in a scoreless tie without managing a shot, before the Wildcats offense got warmed up. Villanova broke the scoreless tie at the 15: 48 mark in the first half when Sam Haas broke away from the defense and beat Georgetown goalkeeper Clodagh Coghlan to the left side to take a 1-0 lead.

Four minutes later Emily Donaldson extended the Wildcats' lead from a penalty corner, assisted by Lauren Wuzzardo. Wuzzardo would set up Donaldson for her second goal of the first half at the 27:19 mark, giving Villanova a 3-0 halftime lead. The Hoyas managed just one shot in the first half.

Dana Ramsden continued the scoring for Villanova in the second half, knocking in an assist from Meg Ryan. Ramsden would score again at the 52:43 mark on the assist from Amy Jackson to give Villanova a 5-0 lead, the eventual final score.

Freshman goalkeeper Clodagh Coghlan made eight saves in 57 minutes and Briana Pereira made one save in 13 minutes.

The Hoyas return to action at Bucknell on Sunday, when they take on the Bison at 1 p.m.
