Box Score

Chicago, Ill. - The Georgetown University women's soccer team allowed a double-overtime goal and fell to DePaul, 2-1. After conceding the first goal, a Catherine Cabot (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) header leveled the score. The Hoyas have gone to overtime in four of their five road contests this season.

Battling 25 miles-per-hour winds in the first half, Georgetown had a tough time getting anything going offensively. The Hoyas matched the Blue Demons with two corner-kicks apiece but DePaul held an 8-0 advantage in shots going to intermission.

With a little under nine minutes remaining until halftime, DePaul had their second corner-kick opportunity. Jackie DesJardin (Sunnyvale, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) went to make a play on the ball and collided with a Blue Demon player. DesJardin fell to the ground and play continued as a Georgetown player alertly cleared the ball off the line and out of play. The junior goalkeeper appeared to be fine as she jogged around after receiving some medical attention, but after another jumping save a few minutes later she seemed to aggravate the injury.

The Hoyas caught a bit of a break to start the second half when a back pass gave them an indirect free-kick in the penalty area. Despite clearing the wall, the shot by Ingrid Wells (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) sailed over the DePaul goal as well.

In the 54th minute, Tara Strickland scored her seventh goal of the season off a free-kick from about 25 yards. Her shot from the near side of the field sailed into the far corner of the goal for a 1-0 Blue Demon lead.

Four minutes later, a long throw from Samantha Baker (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson) was headed home by Cabot to knot the score. The freshman's fourth goal of the season gave the Hoyas some momentum moving forward in the second half.

Wells and Caitlin Durkee (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) each had two shots and Elizabeth Hanna (Waxhaw, N.C./Weddington) played admirably in goal making five saves to send the game into overtime.

However, in the second extra session, another set-piece mistake caught the Hoyas out of position. Strickland's free-kick was deflected in by Callie Hemming, her second goal of the season, for the winner. On the day, DePaul out-shot GU, 18-5 and accumulated nine corner-kicks as opposed to three for the Hoyas. Georgetown is now 0-3 this season when it is held under 10 shots

Georgetown plays at No. 6 Notre Dame on Sunday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. Notre Dame will be providing Gametracker live scoring for the match. Links to Gametracker can be found on the women's soccer schedule on GUHoyas.com.
