Atlanta, Ga. - Freshman Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) allowed just one earned run and scattered five hits with five strikeouts over 7.0 innings, but the Georgetown University softball team (0-6) could not solve Lipscomb's pitching, managing just two hits in a 3-0 loss in their first game of the Georgia State Tournament in Atlanta, Ga.
With two outs in the top of the second inning, Christen Campbell singled to start a rally for the Bison. Mollie Mitchell followed with a single before Abby Wilson singled to drive in the game's first run, putting Lipscomb in front, 1-0.
The Bison held a slight 1-0 lead until the top of the sixth inning when Abby Keese singled to drive in Lauren Dortwegt. Courtney Billington, who reached base on an error, later came around to score when Caroline Mason flew out to centerfield. Though the damage was done as the Hoyas were unable to put any runs on the board.
Whitney Kiihnl earned the victory for Lipscomb tossing 6.0 innings of two hit, eight strikeout ball.
