Georgetown to Play Pioneers on Sunday at Multi-Sport Field

Feb. 28, 2009

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad will host the University of Denver (4-2) Pioneers on Sunday at Multi-Sport Field. The No. 7/9 Hoyas are 2-0 on the season after defeating No. 13/18 Johns Hopkins earlier in the week. The contest marks the beginning of a four-game home-stand for the Hoyas who will welcome four nationally-ranked squads to the facility over the next two weeks.

Georgetown is off to a good start this season and is led by junior Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) who was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday. Ford has had five goals in each of GU's two games and also has two assists to her credit.

Denver is 3-2 on the season with losses to Duke and Northwestern, however, the squad has won its last four by an average of six goals each. The Pioneers are led by junior midfielder Ali Flury who already has 20 goals on the season and senior Karen Morton who has scored 16 goals and has four assists. Georgetown will be Denver's final road game in a four-contest trip to the east coast over the last 13 days.

The Hoyas are 1-0 all-time against the Pioneers after facing Denver in Colorado last season. In that game, Ford and Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) each scored three goals to lead the squad while Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) contributed five assists and a goal. GU scored three unanswered goals late in the game to force overtime and then added scores from Ford and Kaestner to get the last second 12-11 victory.

The opening draw is scheduled for noon at Multi-Sport Field. Live stats and a tape-delayed broadcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
