Box Score
Boiling Springs, N.C. - Boiling Springs, N.C. - Junior RHP Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) tossed her first career no-hitter, striking out seven to lead the Georgetown University softball team (5-13) to its third consecutive victory with a 2-0 win over Gardner Webb in the first game of their doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.
Connell, who earned All Tournament honors at the Pirate Clash at East Carolina University this week, walked three batters, including the first batter of the game, but did not allow a hit to the Runnin' Bulldogs on Thursday. Junior Kelsie Hanson (Katy, Texas/Katy) went 2-for-2 with two RBI's to spark the Hoyas offense in the victory.
Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) reached on an error with one out in the top of the second inning and advanced to second base when McKinley Cooper (McLean, Va./Langley) drew a walk. Suria Bahadue (Miami, Fla./Monsignor Edward Pace) followed with a single to load the bases before Hanson's single to left field drove in two runs, which proved to be the only two runs of the game.
The Hoyas would manage just two more hits the rest of the way, but Connell would prove even harder for Gardner Webb to figure out, retiring 10 of the last 11 hitters, with one reaching on an error, the rest of the way.
Christine Murray took the loss for GWU, allowing two runs, one earned on four hits over 7.0 complete innings.
