Hoyas to Face Familiar Foe in Blue Devils on Saturday

March 13, 2009

Washington, D.C. - The No. 8/8 Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad will host the No. 3/4 Duke University Blue Devils Saturday afternoon at Multi-Sport Field. The game will be GU's final in a four-game home stand where the Hoyas have faced the top three teams in the country. The contest is scheduled to be broadcast on Verizon FiOS, with BJ Koubaroulis handling the play-by-play and Monica Moore providing analysis. (The game will air locally on Verizon FiOS on Wednesday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m.)

Georgetown enters the game with a 3-2 overall record. The losses came earlier in the week against No. 1 Northwestern and No. 2 Maryland. The Hoyas have already defeated the University of Denver and Johns Hopkins University, both nationally ranked squads.

GU is led by junior Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) who has ten goals and seven assists on the season. She is complemented on offense by junior Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) and sophomore Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School). Both Kaestner and Kirr notched three goals in the Hoyas' most recent outing.

Duke comes to Multi-Sport Field with a 6-1 record most recently downing Vanderbilt 22-16. The Blue Devils are on a two-game win streak and are led by a powerful attack. Caroline Cryer is Duke's leading scorer with 32 points on 19 goals and 13 assists. Lindsay Gilbride is the Blue Devils' top goal-scorer with 24 on the season and Cryer as well as Megan Del Monte have notched a team-best 13 assists so far this year.

The Hoyas will face a familiar foe in Duke after meeting twice last season. In the first game in North Carolina, GU snagged an early lead but allowed a Duke run and couldn't make up the deficit falling, 12-11. The second meeting was at Multi-Sport Field in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Hoyas fell 10-8 despite four goals from senior Patty Piotrowicz.

The opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be televised on Verizon FiOS. Live stats and a webcast featuring Chuck Timanus will also be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
