Box Score
Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University baseball team (2-5) dropped its first game at Rollins College Baseball Week on Friday afternoon, falling to the University of Pennsylvania, 11-3.
The Blue & Gray started the scoring in the second inning when Dan Capeless doubled through the right side of the infield on the first pitch he saw. Capeless advanced to third on a wild pitch and after Dan Godefroi struck out swinging, Sean Baumann singled to left center for an early 1-0 lead.
Penn took their first lead of the game at 2-1 but the Hoyas answered in the fifth frame. Baumann doubled to left center to start things off. After two consecutive outs, Tommy Lee singled to right field for a RBI that tied the game, 2-2.
Penn took a four-run lead into the seventh before Georgetown pulled one back. With one out, Rand Ravnaas doubled down the right-field line and Tom Elliott reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners. Lee, who is hitting a team-leading .469, lifted a sacrifice fly to center that cut the score to 6-3.
Lee, Baumann and Erick Fernandez all had multi-hit games for the Hoyas. However, GU left eight runners on base as opposed to two for the Quakers.
Tim Adleman (0-2) earned the start for the Hoyas and allowed six runs over six innings pitched. Cary Piligian pitched a scoreless seventh inning and Billy Concannon threw a perfect inning of relief for the Hoyas.
Georgetown and Penn will play again tomorrow night at 6 p.m.
