Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's soccer team (7-1-0) started BIG EAST play with a resounding 4-0 defeat of rival Villanova (6-1-1) on North Kehoe Field. Goalkeeper Jackie DesJardin (Sunnyvale, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) established a new career shutout record and Sara Jordan (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) scored the eventual game-winner and dished out two helpers.

For the second-consecutive season, the Hoyas entered the game against an undefeated Wildcat squad and much like last year, GU dominated play and earned a big victory to raise the curtain on the conference slate.

"We created chances and got the win today. Any time you can get the victory and three points in the bag at the end of the day, it's a success," Head Coach Dave Nolan said. "I think we did things better in the second half and it clearly showed on the pitch."

Jordan scored the first goal of the game in the 24th minute on a beautiful shot from the left side of the penalty area. Her shot went directly into the top-right corner as Villanova goalkeeper Molly Williams was unable to get a hand to it. Jordan also added two assists, both coming in the second half.

The GU grad student started the play on the second goal, crossing the ball to sophomore Camille Trujillo (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X) who alertly passed it back to a trailing Ingrid Wells (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair). The redshirt sophomore crushed the ball past Williams for a 2-0 GU lead in the 64th minute.

Jordan capped her day with an assist on the final goal, a cross from the left-side to junior Amy Speck (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy). Speck beat the keeper in a 1v1 situation for her second goal of the season. Jordan's assist was the 22nd of her career and tied her with Nicole DePalma ('04) for the most Hoya helpers in the program's history.

"Sara looked sharp today. We saw that with her first goal today, a goal-scorer's goal," Nolan said. "Then in the second half, you saw the experience she brings. A younger player might have taken the shot near the end of the game, but she slipped the pass to Amy and got us our fourth goal."

Georgetown's shutout allowed Desjardin to earn her 21st career clean sheet, breaking a tie with former Hoya Jade Higgins (`07) and adding to her resume on the Hilltop. The junior goalkeeper is also currently GU's all-time wins leader, passing Higgins last week against GW.

"When people watch soccer, it is all about scoring goals. Shutouts though, are the goals for the defense," Nolan added. "Between Liz and Jackie, we have had seven shutouts in eight games. Also, each year she has played, Jackie's goals-against-average has continued to drop which is the real testament to her improvement."

Freshman Catherine Cabot (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) scored her third goal of the year off a long throw by sophomore Samantha Baker (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson) in the 78th minute and Coach Nolan was quick to praise the play of his younger players.

"Catherine gets better and better every game for us," Nolan said. "Also, our sophomores, Camille, Gabby, Kelly, Sam, are also doing a really nice job and it was good for us that we were able to get a lot of people in the game near the end."

The Hoyas added to their BIG EAST-leading offensive statistics in a number of area including goals (4), assists (4), points (12) and corner-kicks (9). They also held Villanova, who had been averaging 19.3 shots per game, to just one on the afternoon

The Hoyas travel to the City of Brotherly Love for a Sunday afternoon contest at Penn (3-1-0). Kick-off for that game is slated for noon.
