Georgetown Baseball Holds Fall Blue-Gray Scrimmages

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown baseball team recently opened up its fall season with Blue-Gray scrimmages at Shirley-Povich Field. The teams went head-to-head, with a strong showing from the lineup and solid performances from the pitching staff.

On Saturday, senior third-baseman Sean Lamont (Houston, Texas/Bellaire) had a great day at the dish, finishing 5-for-5, with three home runs and 11 RBI for the Blue team. Junior outfielder Rand Raavnas (Fort Worth, Texas/All Saints Episcopal) reached base four times on the day, going 3-for-5 with a double, two singles, and a walk. Senior catcher Erick Fernandez (Hialeah, Fla./Hialeah) went 3-for-4 with three singles and a walk. Junior catcher Nick Geary (Miami, Fla./Ranson Everglades) had a productive day as well, finishing 3-for-4 with a double.

From a pitching standpoint, sophomore left-handed pitcher Thomas Polus (Crown Point, Ind./Andrean) had a very impressive outing, recording three perfect innings (one strikeout, no hits, and no walks).

Freshman left-handed pitcher Patrick Camporini (Safety Harbor, Fla./Clearwater Central Catholic) had three scoreless innings as well, striking out three while scattering two hits and surrendering one walk. Sophomore right-handed pitcher James Heine (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) also turned in a productive outing out of the bullpen in the late innings.

On Sunday, sophomore utility player Justin Leeson (Exton, Pa./West Chester) reached base five times, finishing 2-for-3 (triple, single, two walks, hit by pitch).

Sophomore infielder Corbin Blakey (Alpharetta, Ga./Centennial) went 2-for-5 with a home run, double and four RBI on the day. Ravnaas had another productive day at the plate, going 3-for-5, reaching base a total of four times with a pair of doubles.

On the mound, sophomore right-hander Chris Casale (Potomac, Md./Gonzaga) had a very strong appearance, throwing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts, one hit allowed, and one walk. Right handed pitcher Billy Cosmopulos (Seekonk, Mass./Moses Brown) threw two solid innings (two strikeouts, two hits, one walk, no earned runs). Senior transfer Michael Seander (Cranston, R.I./Saint Raphael Academy/Duke) was also strong on the back end of the bullpen (two strikeouts, two hits, no walks, no earned runs).

The baseball team will continue the fall season with practices this week, before hosting a pair intrasquad scrimmages over the weekend.
