WASHINGTON - More than 20 former Georgetown University baseball players got together at an alumni gathering during the Hoyas baseball series at St. John's this past weekend.
A tailgate was originally scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 24 after the team's game against the Red Storm, but inclement weather in the area forced the teams to play a doubleheader on the day and the tailgate was held between games.
"For me, it was gratifying to see a lot of our former players come back and for them to care about our team," Head Coach Pete Wilk said. "The guys on the current team see that and they see that Georgetown baseball is a family and that it's not just a team you play on and you're done."
The tailgate was largely organized by Paul Perillo (B'02), as well as a group of parents. Players from nearly five different decades of Georgetown baseball who live in the New York City area came to the doubleheader.
"It was a great experience," Ryan Craft (B'06) said. "Every single time I see our team, I think we're a crisper team in the field and I see a lot of power in the lineup. The talent out there is getting better and better. It was disappointing to see the team lose, and I know they've lost some close games, but to get a chance to see some former teammates was great."
Georgetown, 19-21 overall, returns to action on Wednesday, April 28, visiting No. 1-ranked Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
