CHICAGO, Ill. - CHICAGO, Ill. - The Georgetown University softball team (17-29, 6-15 BIG EAST) took an early lead against DePaul (30-15, 14-3 BIG EAST), but the Blue Demons offense scored seven runs over the last three innings to down the Hoyas, 7-1 in the first game of a BIG EAST Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) held DePaul scoreless through the first three innings, before the Blue Demons scored three runs in the fourth and then two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to take the loss. Becca Heteniak allowed five hits and one run over 7.0 innings to earn the victory.
Samantha Peters (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) and Carter each had two hits in the loss. In the top of the first inning, the Hoyas loaded the bases for Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter), who singled to drive in a run, giving GU a quick 1-0 lead.
Carter held the Blue Demons scoreless through the first three innings, but DePaul would get on the scoreboard in the fourth inning, as Samantha Dodd drove in two-runs on a double before Tara Voss homered to take a 3-0 lead.
The Blue Demons would score four more runs, as the Hoyas managed just two more hits the rest of the way, both singles from Peters.
