WASHINGTON - WASHINGTON - Sophomore Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team for the second consecutive season, when the conference announced its regular-season award winners at the Championship Banquet in Louisville, Ky. on Wednesday evening.
Carter established herself as one of the more versatile players in the BIG EAST, batting .344 (55-for-160), tied for 10th in the conference, adding four home runs and 24 runs batted in. She also carried a team-best 2.75 earned run average, while tying for the team lead with eight victories on the mound. Carter was seventh in the conference tossing 165.1 innings.
"Mac had a tremendous year on the mound and at the plate," Georgetown softball Head Coach Pat Conlan said. "Her success is a result of her uncompromising work ethic and dedication to the team. She has emerged as a leader and is highly respected by her teammates and coaches."
Carter, who was named to the All-BIG EAST second team as a freshman, improved her batting average by .19 points and her earned run average by .24 points to help lead the Hoyas through its second season in the conference. Carter was named to the BIG EAST Softball Weekly Honor Roll on March 29 after batting .643 with two home runs and eight RBI's, while also earning two victories on the mound.
"Earning conference honors is very exciting and encouraging," Carter said. "I feel honored and incredibly humbled to be able to use the talent God has given me in order to represent Georgetown softball. I feel blessed to have incredible support from my coaches, teammates, and family. It gives me even more motivation to keep working hard and come back ready to bring the same intensity next year."
