No. 16 Georgetown Closes Out Regular Season at Rutgers

April 30, 2011

WASHINGTON - The No. 16 Georgetown University women's lacrosse team (8-7, 6-1 BIG EAST) will take on the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights on Sunday afternoon in Piscataway, N.J. The contest marks the final regular season game for both squads, the Hoyas are currently tied for first place in the BIG EAST.

The Blue & Gray lost to No. 1 Maryland on Thursday evening, 8-5, at Multi-Sport Field. Georgetown trailed at halftime, 4-1, and momentum in the second half was not enough for a successful comeback. In the senior day game, four of the five goals came from GU seniors and fourth-year defender Logan McCraw (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) managed four draw controls.

Georgetown's offense is led by senior captain Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) who has 48 points on 24 goals and 24 assists this season. Sophomore midfielder Sophia Thomas (Lutherville, Md./Maryvale Prep) leads the team with 33 goals, and has 41 points this season. Seven other players have also recorded double-digit goals this year. Thomas leads the team with 36 ground balls, while McCraw leads squad with 38 draw controls.

The Hoyas are 17-3 all-time against the Scarlet Knights since 1991. The Blue & Gray has won the past 11 meetings and is 8-2 on the road against Rutgers. Last year, Georgetown won 19-12 at home and the win was a part of a 10-game win streak for the Hoyas.

Rutgers is 9-6 on the season and 3-4 in BIG EAST play. The Scarlet Knights recently defeated Villanova, 13-10, at home.

The opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m., at Yurcak Field. The game will be televised tape delayed on Verizon FiOS and live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
