WASHINGTON - Sophomore attackman Davey Emala was named BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week when the conference office announced its weekly honors on Monday afternoon. Emala scored two goals and had a career high six assists for eight points in the Hoyas 12-9 victory at Rutgers Saturday evening.
This is the first BIG EAST Player of the Week honor for Emala, who was named to the weekly honor roll on March 14 and March 28 of this season.
Emala, who leads the BIG EAST in goals per game (2.54) and has been among the nation's leaders in goals throughout the season is the Hoyas first 30 goal scorer since 2002. On Saturday evening against the Scarlet Knights, Emala assisted five different Hoya goal scorers with his six assists, while scoring two goals of his own. His eight points was a career high, having registered four five-point games during the 2011 season.
The six assists falls one short of the GU single game record of seven, last achieved by Chris Remington against Villanova on April 10, 1993. For Emala it was just the second time this season with more than one assist in a game, having assisted two goals against St. John's on March 5.
Georgetown will conclude its 2011 season when they host BIG EAST opponent No. 9/10 Villanova on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. on Multi-Sport Field. The game will be broadcast on Verizon Fios1 and can be seen live via HoyaVision on GUHoyas.com.
