McCraw and Thomas Named All-Americans

May 31, 2011

WASHINGTON - Senior Logan McCraw (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) and sophomore Sophia Thomas (Lutherville, Md./Maryvale Prep) were both named All-America by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association. The pair were two of 51 Division I student-athletes recognized by the organization.

McCraw was a first team honoree marking her second All-America honor and her first-career nod to the first team. Last week, she was named First Team All-South Region by the IWLCA. The defender was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection and the BIG EAST Defender of the Year. The co-captain led the team in draw controls with 42 and ranked second in ground balls with 31. McCraw also has 15 caused turnovers to her credit as well as a goal and an assist. She is among the program's all-time leaders in draw controls.

McCraw was a Second Team All-America selection as a junior making her one of just 14 players in program history to earn All-America honors twice in her career.

Thomas was named Third Team All-America marking her first-career national honor. She was a Second Team All-South Region selection after a breakout season. Earlier this year, she was honored with the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year award and a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team marking milestones in her young career. The sophomore led the team in goals with 37 and also has eight assists to her credit for 45 points. The midfielder had the most ground balls (42) and caused turnovers (33) on the squad, as well as ranking third in draw controls with 24. She was on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll three times this season.

Thomas is one of 11 players in program history to be named an All-American as a sophomore.

Georgetown finished the season with a record of 9-8 after winning the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship for the fourth-consecutive year. The Hoyas lose seven seniors, including McCraw and Kirr and three additional starters, next season but return three of their top four scorers including Thomas.

The BIG EAST had eight student-athletes represented spread out among four institutions. Thomas was one of only five sophomores on the three teams and Georgetown was one of 16 schools with multiple honorees.
