WASHINGTON -
The Georgetown University field hockey team (0-1) fell victim to two second half goals by the Davidson Wildcats, losing by a score of 2-0 on Friday afternoon at the William I Jacobs Recreational Complex.
The season-opening loss for the Hoyas comes a day in front of predicted storms along the east coast. Georgetown's previously scheduled second match of the season against La Salle University has been rescheduled for Tuesday August 30 at 3 p.m.
Georgetown outshot Davidson 9-6 in the scoreless first half. Junior Catherine Shugrue (Devon, Pa./Episcopal Academy) led the Hoyas with six of the team's 13 shots, but was unable to convert.
Annie Evans (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) of Davidson broke the tie around the 53-minute mark, and scored again with less than 10 minutes to play to lift the Wildcats past the Hoyas. Both goals were unassisted.
Briana Pereira (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) had seven saves for Georgetown in the loss.
