Oct. 27, 2014 WASHINGTON - Senior libero MacKenzie Simpson (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) of the Georgetown volleyball team has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference on Monday. The award recognizes Simpson's efforts in Georgetown's two matches this weekend against DePaul and Marquette.
Simpson averaged an astounding 5.71 digs per set in Georgetown's two matches over the weekend. In Friday's five-set thrilling victory over DePaul, Simpson blew past her previous career high, registering 36 digs, an average of more than seven digs per set, to lead the GU defense. She also added four assists in the win. Simpson had four more digs and two assists before leaving early in Sunday's Marquette match due to injury.
It is Simpson's first weekly award this season and the fourth for the Hoyas. Earlier this year, sophomore Ashlie Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) was named to the honor roll after being named the Tiny Laster Memorial Classic Tournament MVP. Junior Lauren Saar (Richland, Mich./Plainwell) was recognized on the honor roll in consecutive weeks in September.
Georgetown will head out on the road for five-consecutive matches, starting with a matchup next Saturday, November 1, at Creighton.
