WASHINGTON - Senior first baseman Steve Anderson (Albany, N.Y./Northfield Mt. Hermon Prep (Mass.)/Guilderland) of the Georgetown baseball team was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference on Monday. The award recognizes Anderson's performances last week in games against the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore (UMES) and St. John's.
In five games last week, Anderson batted .400 (8-for-20) with two doubles and nine RBI. He had an on-base percentage of .409 and a .500 slugging percentage. He went 4-for-4 in game two of a doubleheader versus UMES on Tuesday, knocking in three runs in a 7-2 win. He followed that with a three RBI performance against St. John's on Friday, including a two-run single in a five-run seventh inning that gave the Hoyas the lead. He capped his weekend with a two-RBI effort against the Red Storm on Saturday.
This is Anderson's third recognition by the BIG EAST this season. He was named the Player of the Week back on March 31 following Georgetown's series at Grambling State and was selected to the Honor Roll on Feb. 24 after GU's series against Hartford. Additionally, sophomores Nick Collins (Carthage, N.C./Union Pines) and Matt Smith (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) have each earned two nods to the Honor Roll. Senior Patrick Camporini (Safety Harbor, Fla./Clearwater Central Catholic) and juniors Ryan Busch (Falcon Heights, Minn./Roseville Area) and Matt Hollenbeck (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) have each been selected to the Honor Roll once.
The Hoyas (15-25, 1-11 BIG EAST) return home to Shirley Povich Field for a midweek doubleheader against Coppin State on Wednesday. The two teams will play two seven-inning games with game one starting at 4 p.m. and game two starting shortly after the conclusion of the first. The Blue & Gray will host Villanova in a three-game, BIG EAST series on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
