WASHINGTON - Junior shortstop Ryan Busch (Falcon Heights, Minn./Roseville Area) has been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll, as announced by the conference on Monday. The award recognizes Busch's play this past week in a single game at George Washington and three games against Xavier.
Busch raised his season average 40 points in Georgetown for games last week, batting .500 (9-for-18) with a .550 on-base percentage. He totaled six runs scored, five RBI, three doubles and three stolen bases, all coming from the leadoff position. He also raised his slugging percentage 55 points to .418 as he slugged .667 for the week and had multi-hit games in all four contests. He went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI against George Washington then had a 2-for-5 performance on Friday vs. Xavier, including a three-run double. He concluded the week by going 3-for-5, including a pair of doubles and two runs scored on Sunday.
This is Busch's first award this season and eighth time that a Georgetown baseball player has been honored by the BIG EAST. Last week, senior first baseman Steve Anderson (Albany, N.Y./Northfield Mt. Hermon Prep (Mass.)/Guilderland) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week and sophomore pitcher Matt Smith (Cranberry Twp, Pa./Seneca Valley) was selected to the Honor Roll, Smith was also named to the Honor Roll two weeks ago, earning nods in back-to-back weeks. Additionally, sophomore catcher Nick Collins (Carthage, N.C./Union Pines) was named to the Honor Roll on March 17. On March 11, senior outfielder Patrick Camporini (Safety Harbor, Fla./Clearwater Central Catholic) and junior Matt Hollenbeck (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) both earned nods to the Honor Roll. Anderson was also selected back on Feb. 24.
The Hoyas hit the road for a midweek matchup at George Mason on Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Blue & Gray will then fly out to Omaha, Neb. for a weekend series at Creighton.
