BETHESDA, Md. - The Georgetown baseball team fell in its series finale, 13-2, to Villanova on Sunday afternoon in a BIG EAST contest at Shirley Povich Field.
AC Carter (Winter Park, Fla./Orangewood Christian) and Patrick Camporini (Safety Harbor, Fla./Clearwater Central Catholic) each had two hits to lead the Hoyas' 10-hit attack.
The Hoyas (17-26, 3-12 BIG EAST) scored a run in the bottom of the first inning with some two-out magic. After two quick outs, Nick Collins (Carthage, N.C./Union Pines) walked and Steve Anderson (Albany, N.Y./Northfield Mt. Hermon Prep (Mass.)/Guilderland) was hit-by-a-pitch. Carter followed with a line-drive single into center field to score Collins.
Villanova (13-30, 4-11 BIG EAST) tied the score with a run in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly. The Wildcats took their first lead of the series with a four-run top of the fifth.
Georgetown got a run back in the sixth on three-consecutive one-out singles by Carter, Camporini and Joseph Bialkowski (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton). Bialkowski's single scored Carter from second to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Villanova scored eight runs over the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to pull away.
The Hoyas will play their final home game of the season on Wednesday when they host the University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) at 7 p.m. at Shirley Povich Field. The Blue & Gray will wrap up their BIG EAST schedule next weekend with a three-game series at Butler.
Notes - Camporini walked in the first inning to extend his streak to 27 consecutive games of reaching base safely.
