WASHINGTON - The Georgetown men's tennis squad dropped a Friday morning matchup against BIG EAST foe DePaul 7-0 at Yates Field House on the Georgetown campus. Despite taking three singles matches to three sets, the Hoyas were unable to overcome the Blue Demons.
Daniel Khanin (Baldwin, N.Y./Pendleton) took the first set from David Vieyra, but he ultimately fell in three, 2-6, 6-0, 6-4, playing from the No. 1 slot. Marco Lam (Hong Kong, China/Diocesan Boys' School) fell to Sten Lousink, 7-5, 6-4, from the No. 2 spot.
Despite taking the game to a tiebreaker, Shane Korber (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) was taken down by Nathan de Veer, 6-4, 7-6 (9), at the No. 3 position. Similarly, Andrew Dottino (New York, N.Y./Pendleton), fought to a tiebreaker but in the end, he was defeated by Kyle Johnson, 7-6(2), 7-5 from the No. 5 slot.
Peter Beatty also battled for three sets, but was ultimately unable to overcome Alex Galoustian, falling 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 from the No. 4 slot.
At No. 6 singles, Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) was defeated by Jan-Willem Feilzer in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(12).
The team of Tropiano and Jordan Portner (Ellicott, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) fell to Jan Willem-Feilzer 8-6 from the No. 1 doubles spot. At the No. 3 position, John Brosens (Bedford, N.Y./Brunswick School) and Mac Rechan (Clayton, Mo./Clayton) fell to Galoustian and de Veer 8-5. The No. 2 doubles matchup of Jack Murphy (Coronado, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) and Khanin did not finish its match with Leusink and Johnson.
The Blue & Gray is back in action next weekend, March 5-7, when it travels to La Jolla, Calif. to participate in the Pacific Coast Doubles.
