WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis squad defeated UC Riverside 4-3 in a tight matchup on Wednesday, March 11 in Riverside, Calif., before falling to UC Irvine on March 12 in Irvine, Calif. With the split, Georgetown now sits at 4-4 overall.

The Hoyas won the No. 2, 3, 4 and 6 singles matches to clinch the win after losing two-of-three doubles matches.
The No. 1 doubles pair of Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) and Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) was defeated by Sina Sharifi and Cooper Bridge, 6-2. At No. 3 doubles, Daniel Khanin (Baldwin, N.Y./Pendleton) and Shane Korber (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) were taken down in similar fashion, dropping their match by an identical 6-2 final. The No. 2 match between Marco Lam (Hong Kong, China/Diocesan Boys' School) and Jordan Portner (Ellicott, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) versus Julian Ruffin and Calvin Ngo went unfinished.
GU dropped its No. 1 and No. 6 singles matchups, but Beatty set the wheels in motion at the No. 2 doubles position when he defeated Luis Gastao in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Tropiano was victorious over Bridge at the No. 3 slot, 7-5, 6-3. Jack Murphy (Coronado, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) also picked up a victory at the No. 4 position over Marcus Vizcarra, 6-3, 6-4.
Andrew Dottino (New York, N.Y./Pendleton) battled Sean Robles for three sets, but ultimately fell, 7-6, 3-6, 10-4, from the No. 5 position. At No. 6, Mac Rechan (Clayton, Mo./Clayton) was victorious over Hans Baumstark in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
UC Irvine 6, Georgetown 1
The Hoyas were unable to carry Tuesday's momentum into their matchup with the Anteaters and they fell 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon. UC Irvine swept singles play, with GU picking up the doubles point.
The duo of Beatty and John Brosens (Bedford, N.Y./Brunswick School) was victorious over Jonathan Poon and Rafael Davidian at No. 1 singles 6-4. At No. 3 doubles, Khanin and Portner defeated Andrew Gong and Shuhei Shibahara 6-4.
Georgetown returns to action on March 21 when it takes on Penn in Philadelphia at 2 p.m. ET.
