WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team returns from its spring break trip to Florida for a midweek contest at Navy on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Navy's Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium.

The Hoyas (6-8) will start sophomore right-hander Simon Mathews (West Haven, Conn./Hopkins School) on Wednesday. It will be Mathews first start of the season after making five appearances out of the bullpen. In 18.1 innings on the mound, he has a 4.91 ERA with 15 strikeouts.

On Monday, junior right-handed pitcher Matt Smith (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after he pitched seven shutout innings on Saturday, lowering his season ERA to 2.22, in a 2-1 win over Lehigh to move to 2-0 on the season. He gave up just three hits and tied his season high in strikeouts with eight. Smith retired the final seven batters who came to the plate, facing only one batter over the minimum in his final four innings.

Additionally, sophomore outfielder Joseph Bialkowski (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton) was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. He batted .467 (7-for-15) with a .529 on-base percentage and a .600 slugging percentage in four games last week. He went 4-for-5 with three runs, including doubling in the bottom of the ninth and scoring the winning run, in GU's thrilling come-from-behind, 10-9, walk-off win over Lehigh on Wednesday. Bialkowski also doubled and scored the eventual game-winning run in a 2-1 win on Saturday.

Last Time Out...
The Hoyas are coming off of their spring break trip to Port Charlotte, Florida where they played seven games at the Snowbird Baseball Classic. The Blue & Gray went 5-2 with two wins over Northwestern and Lehigh and a victory over Western Michigan.

Georgetown batted .308 on the trip and averaged 5.9 runs per game, more than two full runs per game than the first seven games of the season. The pitching staff had a 3.54 ERA in Florida, lowering the season ERA to 4.46. GU also had a 16-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio on the trip and now has 106 strikeouts to just 55 walks on the year.

Scouting Navy ...
The Midshipmen enter Wednesday's matchup with a 14-5 overall record after taking three of four games form the New York Institute of Technology over the weekend. As a team, Navy is batting .299 while the pitching staff is holding its opponents to a .197 clip.

Sean Trent leads the offense with a .405 batting average and has 30 hits, including eight doubles and a triple, in 19 games. Robert Currie has also started all 19 games and is batting .325 with five doubles, four triples and a team-high 21 RBI. Kyle Condry, who will get the start on the mound for the Midshipmen, has a 3.26ERA in seven appearances, covering 19.1 innings. Jett Meenach is 4-0 with a 0.98 ERA in 18.1 innings in seven appearances out of the bullpen.

What's Up Next ...
GU will play its first home games of the season at Shirley Povich Field when Brown University comes down this weekend for a three-game series. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, with the first game starting at noon, and a single game on Sunday.
