March 2, 2015 WASHINGTON - Freshman goalie Nick Marrocco (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after making 17 saves to help the Georgetown University men's lacrosse team (1-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) defeat Hofstra, 13-11, on Saturday afternoon. Senior attack Reilly O'Connor (Brooklin, Ontario/The Hill Academy) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after his three goal, one assist performance against the Pride.
Marrocco earned his first collegiate victory on Saturday with a career-high 17 saves and four ground balls. He becomes the first Hoya to earn BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week since goalie Jake Haley accomplished the feat last season, following the team's season-opening win. Marrocco is just the fourth Hoya to earn the defensive player of the week.
O'Connor had a season-high three goals and one assist, including three points during the Hoyas game-opening 4-0 run. This is the fourth time O'Connor has earned a spot on the weekly honor roll during his career.
Georgetown returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when it travels to Emmitsburg, Md. to take on Mount St. Mary's. The opening face-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on NECFrontRow.com.
