Georgetown Travels to No. 16/19 Loyola

March 24, 2015

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (1-6) will travel to Baltimore, Md., on Wednesday to play the No. 16/19 Loyola University Greyhounds (5-4) in a 7 p.m. matchup at the Ridley Athletic Complex. The game will be broadcast live via the Patriot League Network.

On Saturday, GU had a big second half, but couldn't overcome a slow start to fall, 8-6, to the No. 19/RV Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays Saturday afternoon at Homewood Field. The Blue & Gray held a huge advantage in shots, but couldn't convert that into goals.

Junior midfielder Kristen Bandos (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame of Namur) led the Hoyas with her third hat trick of the season, while senior attacker Sammy Giordano (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) posted a goal and a squad-best two assists.

The Hoyas outshot the Blue Jays, 27-17, and held an advantage on the draw with nine to Hopkins' seven. GU held the 16-14 advantage on ground balls and Georgetown forced 14 Blue Jay turnovers while committing 11.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maddy Fisher (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) took the loss in the cage with three saves in the contest. KC Emerson was credited with the victory for Hopkins posting 13 saves on the afternoon.

Bandos is leading the Hoyas in scoring with a squad-high 11 goals and one assist on the season for 12 points, while sophomore attacker Colleen Lovett (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and senior attacker Caroline Tarzian (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) both have 11 points. Lovett has nine goals and two assists, while Tarzian has posted seven goals and four assists. Giordano also has four assists on the season.

Junior midfielder Kelsey Perselay (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) leads the squad with 13 draw controls, while senior defender Casey McGowan (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) has picked up a team-best 15 ground balls. Senior defender Adrianne Devine (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) has also posted 10 caused turnovers on the defensive end of the field.

Fisher has seen a majority of the minutes in the cage with 30 saves to her credit.

Seniors Hannah Schmitt and Annie Thomas lead Loyola with 32 points each, as Schmitt has a team-best 26 goals and Thomas has a team-best 19 assists. Seniors Kara Burke (17 G, 6 A), Taryn VanThof (12 G, 7 A), Molly Hulseman (11 G, 3 A) , and Sydney Thomas (8 G, 3 A) have also reached double digits in points, with 23, 19, 14 and 11, respectively. VanThof also has a team-best 21 ground balls, 35 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers.

The Hoyas are 9-7 all-time against the Greyhounds and have won two of the last three meetings. Last year, the Blue & Gray fell, 8-5, at Multi-Sport Field in a non-conference matchup. Five different players scored in that game. The last meeting in Baltimore was a 15-13 Hoya victory during the 2011 season.

The opening draw is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Ridley Athletic Complex. Live stats and the Patriot League Network webcast will be available through www.GUHoyas.com.
