March 27, 2015 WASHINGTON - The No. 14 Georgetown University men's lacrosse team (6-3, 1-0) will travel west to take on No. 5 Denver University (6-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at a sold-out Barton Field. The opening faceoff between the Hoyas and Pioneers is scheduled for 3 p.m. EST.
SERIES HISTORY: Georgetown and Denver meet for the second time, as the Hoyas take their first trip to Denver University to meet the Pioneers. In their inaugural matchup last season at Multi-Sport Field, DU won 17-9. All America attack Wes Berg had six goals and three assists, while the Hoyas' Eduardo White (Littleton, Colo./Kent Denver), a Colorado native, had two goals in the loss. The Pioneers have not lost to a league opponent since joining the BIG EAST last season. They will be the fifth ranked opponent GU has played this season.

LAST GAME: Senior attack Bo Stafford (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) had two goals to lead nine different Georgetown goal-scorers in a 10-9 victory over No. 9/11 Marquette on Saturday afternoon at Multi-Sport. Georgetown rushed out to an 8-2 halftime lead, before the Golden Eagles tied the game at nine in the fourth quarter. Freshman midfielder Craig Berge (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) scored the eventual game-winning goal during an extra-man opportunity with just under four minutes left in the game to seal a win in the Hoyas BIG EAST-opener. Senior Anthony Heaton (Essex Fells, N.J./Delbarton) went 13-of-23 at the faceoff X to help GU to victory.
HOYAS NAMED NCAA.COM TEAM OF THE WEEK: GU defeated No. 14 Loyola (Md.) for the first time since 2007, earning its first win over a ranked opponent since 2013. They followed with a win over previously unbeaten No. 11/9 Marquette to vault into the rankings for the first time since 2009. Georgetown is ranked No. 14 in the USILA and Cascade/Maverik Polls. They take on the No. 5 Pioneers, the fifth ranked opponent they meet this season.
Bo Stafford NAMED BIG EAST OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Stafford earned his first offensive player of the week after carrying the Hoyas early against Loyola, finishing with four goals and two assists. He added a team-high two goals in the team's win over Marquette and now is fourth in the BE and 38th in the nation with 3.56 points/game. His 32 points surpasses his career-high of 31 set last season in 14 games.
HOYAS SCORING OFFENSE LEADS THE BIG EAST: Georgetown's offense has averaged 12.33 goals per game through its first nine contests to lead the BIG EAST and place 14th in the nation. Senior attack Bo Stafford leads the team with 32 points (18 goals, 14 assists), while senior attack Reilly O'Connor (Brooklin, Ontario/The Hill Academy) has 26 points and Peter Conley (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamanroneck), the back-to-back BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, who was lost to injury vs. Duke has 22 points. GU's offense has been aided by a strong freshman class as Berge has seven goals and 10 assists, while freshman attack Stephen Quinzi has 11 goals and four assists. The Hoyas 12.33 goals per game is its best offensive output in over 10 years.
ABOUT DENVER: The preseason No. 1 Pioneers have been led on offense by sophomore attack Connor Cannizzaro, who was the ACC Freshman of the Year at Maryland last season. He has picked up where he left off, scoring 23 goals and adding 13 assists to lead the BIG EAST in points. Zach Miller (11 goals, 16 assists) and Wes Berg (16 goals, 7 assists) have also been key for the explosive DU offense. Denver has been tough to beat in front of its home crowd, going 70-14 at Peter Barton Stadium since it was built in 2005. The Pioneers are 39-5 at home under Head Coach Bill Tierney and 17-1 over the last three seasons. Saturday's game will be the 20th sell-out in the history of the venue. Freshman faceoff specialist Trevor Baptiste is among the nation's leaders winning .675 percent of his faceoff attempts through eight games. Goalie Ryan LaPlante has the BIG EAST's best goals against average, allowing just 8.72/game.
