Final Stats

WASHINGTON - Lipscomb scored seven runs over the last three innings to defeat the Georgetown baseball team, 8-3, on Saturday afternoon. The game was played at the Bisons' Ken Dugan Field in Nashville, Tennessee.

Matt Smith (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) started on the mound for the Hoyas and pitched 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on four hits while striking out six. Simon Mathews (West Haven, Conn./Hopkins School) went 2.2 innings in relief and gave up five runs, although just two were earned.

Chase Bushor (San Diego, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) drove in all three runs for Georgetown with his first-career home run. He also added a double for a multi-hit effort. Nick Collins (Carthage, N.C./Union Pines) also had two hits for this third-consecutive multi-hit performance and his sixth in the past eight games.

Lipscomb (16-8) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run, but the Hoyas (11-11) responded the next half inning with three runs of their own. AC Carter (Winter Park, Fla./Orangewood Christian) and Jake Kuzbel (Ashburn, Va./Stone Ridge) hit consecutive, one-out singles and, with two outs, Bushor hit the first home run of his career over the left field fence to put Georgetown on top, 3-1.

The Hoyas had a chance to extend their lead in the top of the sixth inning when Collins led off with a double to left field. He was on third with two outs, but was thrown out at the plate trying to score when the ball got away from the catcher.

The Bisons scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score and scored two more in the seventh, off of Mathews, to take a 5-3 lead. They added three unearned insurance runs in the eighth to provide the final margin.

The two teams will play the rubber game of their three-game series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET with Kevin Superko (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley/Phillips Andover) to start.
