WASHINGTON - The Hoyas picked up their second win in three matches on Saturday afternoon when they defeated conference foe Villanova in a tightly-contested 4-3 matchup. The victory moves the Georgetown men to 8-6 overall and 1-2 in BIG EAST action.
After the No. 1 doubles matchup of Kelly Donaldson and Mark Miller versus the duo of Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) and Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) went unfinished, the No. 2 team of Chris Seitz and Bradley Noyes battled Daniel Khanin (Baldwin, N.Y./Pendleton) and Marco Lam (Hong Kong, China/Diocesan Boys' School) and emerged with the 8-7 victory for Villanova's first win.
The Wildcats would clinch the doubles point as Tim Abbracciamento and William Elmore defeated Andrew Dottino (New York, N.Y./Pendleton) and Mac Rechan (Clayton, Mo/Clayton) 8-3.
Georgetown clinched the match after picking up wins at the No. 1, 3, 4 and 6 singles positions.
Khanin defeated Miller in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4 for the first singles point of the day from the No. 1 spot. Beatty was victorious over his opponent, Bradley Noyes, by an identical, 6-1, 6-4, final playing at the fourth position. Tropiano required a tie-breaker in the first set, but took the match, 7-6(5), 6-3, from Abbracciamento from the No. 3 position.
Rechan was victorious over Donaldson playing from the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 6-1.
