Softball Bested By Butler in Saturday Doubleheader

April 18, 2015

Final Stats

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown softball team battled, but in the end they were unable to keep up with a Butler team that amassed 16 hits over two games. The losses drop GU's record to 13-26 overall and 3-9 in BIG EAST play.

Game 1: Butler 8, Georgetown 0

Seniors Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Lauren O'Leary (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) both saw time in the circle for the Blue & Gray in game one. Hyson pitched the majority of the game, going four innings and allowing four runs off seven hits. She recorded five strikeouts.

Georgetown was held to one hit in game one of the doubleheader.

A solo home run over the right field fence in the bottom of the first inning put the Bulldogs up early 1-0. Taylor Henry (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) singled to left field in the top of the second, but GU was unable to capitalize and left her stranded after Gabriela Elvina (Edison, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) and Payton Lawton (Yorba Linda, Calif./Rosmary) popped up and lined out to the shortstop and pitcher, respectively, to end the inning.

Butler added a second run in the bottom of the third inning to increase its lead to 2-0. Two hits resulting in two runs in the bottom of the fourth made it 4-0 in favor of the Bulldogs. Butler added the final four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 8-0 and end the game as a result of run differential.

Game 2: Butler 8, Georgetown 0

Freshman Avery Geehr (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) got the start in the second game for the Hoyas. Geehr allowed eight runs off 11 hits over four innings of work in the circle. She recorded one strikeout.

Butler was on the board early in the game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning to go up 2-0. Two more runs in the bottom of the second inning made 4-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Elvina doubled to right center in the top of the third inning, but was left stranded. The bottom of the fifth inning saw the Butler lead increase to 5-0. The Bulldogs wrapped up the game with a three run fourth for the 8-0 victory.

Henry recorded a hit in the top of the fifth inning.

The Hoyas and Bulldogs complete the series tomorrow morning with a 10 a.m. start. The game has been moved up from its initial noon start time due to an expected rain storm in Indianapolis.
