WASHINGTON - The Georgetown men's tennis squad, winner of its last two matches, was unable to carry momentum into its Tuesday matchup against the Richmond Spiders and fell 5-0. The matches were played at Georgetown Visitation Prep School.
The singles matches were tight from top to bottom, but the Spiders prevailed in singles No. 1, 2, 3 and 6. In doubles play, Georgetown won from the No.3 spot.
From the No. 1 singles position, Daniel Khanin (Baldwin, N.Y./Pendleton) fell to Ethan Dunbar, 6-4, 7-5. Freshman Marco Lam (Hong Kong, China/Diocesan Boys' School) was defeated by Jacob Dunbar, 6-4, 6-4, from the No. 2 slot.
Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) took his match to a tiebreaker, but was unable to overcome Canyon Teague and fell in two sets, 7-6(5), 7-5. In the No. 6 singles slot, Jack Murphy (Coronado, Calif./La Jolla County Day) battled with James Aronson for three sets, but ultimately fell 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The story was much the same in doubles play as the duo of Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) and John Brosens (Bedford, N.Y./Brunswick School) dropped their match to Ethan and Jacob Dunbar, 7-6(5).
Jordan Portner (Ellicott, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) and Khanin fell to Teague and Aronson, 6-3, at No. 2 doubles. The duo of Andrew Dottino (New York, N.Y./Pendleton) and Mac Rechan (Clayton, Mo./Clayton) were victorious, 6-3, over Caleb Troy and Jonathan Quenard.
