April 8, 2015 Final Stats
WASHINGTON - The two games versus the Tigers were the final non-conference matchups for the Blue & Gray. Both games were five-inning affairs, the first was called due to run differential and the second was shortened due to darkness.
Game one: Towson 8, Georgetown 0
Freshman Avery Geehr (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) got the start in the circle for the Hoyas, her eighth of the year, in the 8-0 loss in game one. The freshman pitched the complete game and gave up eight runs off eight hits to fall to 1-9 in 2015.
The Tigers were first on the board in the bottom of the first inning following a two-run shot by Holiday Cahill into left center field that gave Towson an early 2-0 lead.
Towson added to its lead in the bottom of the second inning following a solo shot by Missy McCormick that made it 3-0, the offense would stay hot through the remainder of the inning as Kendyl Scott singled down the left field line to bring in two runners and put the Tigers up 5-0 over Georgetown.
The final three runs came in the bottom of the fifth inning off two hits to put the game out of reach for the Hoyas as the scoreboard read 8-0 in favor of the Tigers. The game was called following completion of the fifth inning due to run differential.
Grace Appelbe (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) and Taylor Henry (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) recorded hits for Georgetown.
Game two: Towson 5, Georgetown 4
Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) got the start for the Blue & Gray in game two. With the loss, the senior sits at 9-10 in the circle this season. Hyson recorded five strikeouts to move her season total to 121.
Towson struck first when Kendyl Scott had an inside the park home run and put the Tigers up 1-0 following one inning of play.
Georgetown responded in the top of the second inning when Appelbe hit a three-run shot over center field that scored Gabriela Elvina (Edison, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) and Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) and gave the Hoyas the 3-1 lead. The home run was the third this season for Appelbe, who now has 14 RBI in 2015.
The Hoyas added another run in the top of the fifth inning as a sacrifice fly by Elvina brought in Hyson to increase the GU lead at 4-1.
Towson wouldn't go quietly, however, and the Tigers came back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the game from Georgetown and emerge with the 5-4 victory.
Up next for the Hoyas is a three-game series with BIG EAST foe DePaul at Guy Mason Field. First pitch for the Saturday doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
