WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's rowing team made its 2015-16 debut on Sunday, racing at the Charlie Butt Sculler's Head of the Potomac. It was also GU's first regatta under first-year head coach Stephen Full.
Sunday started strong as the Hoyas opened the day with a win in the 4+. After holding just a four-second lead at the midway point over the boat from TBC Racing, GU pulled away in the second half for an 11-second victory, crossing the finish line in 18:36.3
In the Open Eight race, three Hoya crews all placed in 10-second intervals of each other. The first Georgetown boat placed fifth in a time of 17:42.2, three seconds behind a crew from the Potomac Boat Club. The second boat for the Blue & Gray crossed the finish line 10 seconds later, in 17:52.3, to place sixth while the final GU squad placed seventh in 18:02.8.
"We put out some interesting combinations for lineups," Full said. "The 4+ did a great job. They were not rowing the prettiest, but were really aggressive. Overall, I was happy with the effort, but we need to continue get better."
