Arielle Schechtman Named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week

Oct. 31, 2016

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University women's soccer player Arielle Schechtman (Dell Mar, Calif./La Jolla Country Day/UCLA) was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday. She was one of two players recognized as junior midfielder Rachel Corboz (Green Brook, N.J./Pingry) was selected to the Weekly Honor Roll.

The Hoyas closed out the regular season on Friday with a 3-0 win over Creighton. The win, combined with Marquette's 3-2 overtime win over DePaul, made Georgetown the No. 3 seed for this week's BIG EAST Tournament. The Hoyas will host No. 6 seed Butler on Tuesday, November 1 at Shaw Field at 2 p.m.

Georgetown, ranked No. 10 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and No. 7 in the Soccer America poll, closes out the regular season with a 14-2-2 overall record and a 6-1-2 mark in conference play.

Schecthman made seven saves in her 11th shutout this season, including a double save in latter stages of the second half. Schechtman made a diving stop to her left in the 45th minute to keep the GU lead at 2-0 going into the half. Leading 3-0, she made two saves in the 78th minute, first with a two-handed stop to her right and then saving one with her left on a dive to the left.

This is the second time this year she has been named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, the first coming on Sept. 19 after the Hoyas beat No. 1 West Virginia, 1-0.

Corboz was selected to the honor roll after scoring one goal and assisting on another in the 3-0 win over Creighton. She has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week three times this season. Corboz is tied for the team lead in scoring with nine goals and 10 assists for 28 points.
