Feb. 22, 2016 WASHINGTON - Sophomore outfielder Michael DeRenzi (Mendham, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and junior closer David Ellingson (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) were both named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, recognizing their efforts in Georgetown's three games at the Wake Forest Invitational last weekend.
DeRenzi batted .400 (4-for-10) with one double, one RBI and three walks, starting all three games in right field over the weekend. The sophomore was on base three times with a run scored on Sunday in the Hoyas' 6-5 comeback win over UMBC.
Ellingson pitched two perfect innings in relief on Sunday, picking up the win as Georgetown overcame a 5-0 deficit to win in 10 innings. The junior closer pitched the ninth and 10th innings, throwing 16 pitches, 12 for strikes, while striking out two.
The is the first career honor roll selection for either player and the first two of the season for the Hoyas.
Georgetown (1-2) will travel back to the state of North Carolina next weekend for a three-game series at Davidson. First pitch for Friday is set for 6 p.m., while Saturday's game will begin at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
