April 21, 2016 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team (18-20, 3-3 BIG EAST) will look to continue its three-game winning streak this weekend as it travels travel to Indianapolis for a three-game conference series against Butler University (10-27, 1-5 BIG EAST). First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m., while Saturday's contest is set for 1 p.m. and Sunday's series finale will be at noon. The Hoyas are coming off of a hard-fought, 2-1 victory over crosstown rival George Washington University behind five hitless innings from the bullpen. Nick Leonard (Washington, D.C./Maret) started on the mound and went four solid innings, giving up just one run while scattering seven hits and two walks. He struck out one. Jimmy Swad (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) pitched two innings in relief, allowing just one walk while striking out two. Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas/Marcus), Tim Davis (Vienna, Va./James Madison HS) and David Ellingson (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) all fired perfect innings. Jake Bernstein (Frederick, Md./Saint John's College HS) had a two-run single to provide the offense.
On Monday, Eric Webber (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's) was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the first time in his career after batting a conference-best .700 (7-for-10) with six walks, five runs scored and three RBI in four games last week. Against George Mason last Tuesday, Webber pinch hit and had two singles in the nine-run seventh inning for the Hoyas.
Simon Mathews (West Haven, Conn./Hopkins School/Temple) was also named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season and third time of his career after throwing his third complete game of the year and tying a career high with nine strikeouts in GU's 9-1 win on Saturday. His three complete games this season is the most by a Georgetown pitcher since Eddie Pena ('05) had three in 2005.
For the season, the Hoyas are led by Michael DeRenzi (Mendham, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) who continues to be strong at the plate, leading the BIG EAST with 50 hits and ranking second with a .350 batting average (50-for-143). He is also leading GU with three triples, 15 stolen bases and 69 total bases. He is second on the team with 22 runs scored, tied for second with two home runs and tied for third with seven doubles. Joseph Bialkowski (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton) has a team-high three home runs out of the cleanup spot for the Hoyas and leads the squad with 24 RBI. Beau Hall (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City) ranks third in the BIG EAST with 30 runs scored.
Butler comes in having a lost six of its past seven games and 12 of the last 14. The Bulldogs have a .238 team batting average and just six home runs while the pitching staff has an ERA of 6.06. Michael Hartnagel leads the offense with a .304 (41-for-135) batting average, while Tyler Houston is hitting .296 (34-for-115) and has a team-high 19 RBI. Chris Maranto leads the Bulldogs with two home runs.
Last Meeting
Last season, Butler won Friday's game, 6-3, before the Hoyas came back with 12-5 and 15-12 victories on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Georgetown totaled 40 hits in the two wins.
Milestone Watch
Senior Tim Davis has made 89 appearances on the mound in a Georgetown uniform, ranking second in the GU record books. Pablo Vinent ('12) holds the top spot with 95 career appearances.
On Friday, April 8 at St. John's, senior Matt Smith (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) recorded his 200th career strikeout, becoming just the fifth pitcher in Georgetown history to reach that milestone. He currently is third in program history with 209 strikeouts. Eddie Pena ('05) is the career leader with 232 strikeouts. Smith has also made 45 career starts, just four away from taking the top spot, and has thrown 282.0 career innings, needing to reach 298.1 innings to become the program leader.
On Thursday, March 24 at the University of North Carolina Greensboro, senior Eric Webber laid down his 21st and 22nd sacrifice bunts of his career, surpassing Andy Lentz ('12) for the Georgetown program record. Webber also has 102 career walks to rank eighth in the record books.

After this weekend, the Hoyas will return home to Shirley Povich Field for a midweek doubleheader against the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Tuesday.
