Georgetown dropped the doubles point but stormed back by sweeping the singles matches.
The freshman duo of Sydney Goodson (Great Falls, Va./Langley High School) and Sarah Swift (Vail, Co./Saint Edward's School) opened the match with an easy 6-2 win over Marquette's Diana Tokar and Paula Tormos Sanchez at the No. 2 spot. Needing only one more doubles match to take the lead, the Blue & Gray battled at the Nos. 1 and 3 spots but dropped both matches, 7-5.

The GU men took an early edge as Yannick Mahlangu (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley High School) and Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) easily cruised to a 6-1 win at the second doubles flight. However, a loss at the No. 3 double spot set up a deciding match at the No. 1 doubles spot. The duo of Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel High School) and Jordan Portner (Ellicott, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) narrowly lost at the top flight in a tiebreaker, 7-6.
The Hoyas looked to bounce back in singles play and Daniel Khanin (Baldwin, N.Y./Pendleton) was hot early, winning his first set 6-0, but a lopsided matchup gave way to XU's Zach Mueck who went on for the quick 0-6, 6-1, 6-1 win, giving the Musketeers the 2-0 advantage.
Close matches at the Nos. 2 and 6 flights were the match deciders. Marco Lam (Hong Kong, China/Diocesan Boys' School) fell at the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 6-3 while Will Sharton (Wayland, Mass./Wayland High School) lost in straight sets by just one service break in each set, 6-4, 6-4.
