WASHINGTON - Georgetown University cross country standouts Jonathan Green (Berlin, Mass./Saint John's School) and Martha MacDonald (Toronto, Ont./Havergal College) are in Louisville, Ky., for the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships, hosted by the University of Louisville. Due to weather, especially high winds in the area, race times have changed to 9 a.m. ET for the women's 6-kilometer race and 10 a.m. ET for the men's 10-kilometer affair. The race will be streamed live on FloTrack and available to view through a subscription to the site.
Green enters the race as the newly-minted 2017 Mid-Atlantic Region Men's Athlete of the Year, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday. The announcement came after Green captured the men's individual title at the 2017 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Championships Friday, Nov. 10. The crown was the eighth in program history for the Hoyas and the first since 2010 when Ayalew Taye won the individual race.
Earlier this season, Green won the individual title at the 2017 BIG EAST Championships, leading the Hoyas to a three-peat team win. The Blue & Gray was just the second program in league history to complete a three-peat in men's cross country.
Green is just the second Hoya in history to win both the BIG EAST and Mid-Atlantic Region titles in the same year joining the likes of former Hoya All-American Andrew Bumbalough, who achieved the feat in 2008.
Green previously competed at the 2015 NCAA Cross Country Championships, turning in a fifth-place finish over the 10-kilometer race, also held in Louisville, Ky.
Following a ninth-place performance at the Mid-Atlantic championships, MacDonald, a freshman, earned an individual berth to nationals and was an was named all-region. Earlier this season, MacDonald finished 13th at the BIG EAST championships, earning Second Team All-BIG EAST accolades.
