Jan. 14, 2018 American/GW Results
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming & diving team returned to action for the first time in nearly two months on Saturday, competing in a tri-meet against local rivals American and George Washington. The Hoya women came away with a pair of victories, defeating both the Eagles (175.5-64.5) and Colonials (127-115), while the men's squad split the day, beating American (166-56) but falling to GW (153-72). Racing took place at American's Reeves Aquatic Center.
On the women's side, the Hoyas got off to a good start as the quartet of Alexandra Rieker (Winston-Salem, N.C./Ronald Reagan), Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School), Lauren Henasey (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academic) and Belinda Donohoe (Cambridge, Mass./Concord Carlisle) touched the wall first in the 200-yard medley relay.
Cristina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) won the 1,000-yard freestyle and came in second in the 500-yard freestyle. Rieker narrowly outtouched her classmate, Evie Mauzé (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS), in the 100-yard backstroke as the duo finished first and second. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Fitzpatrick cruised to a victory, touching the wall first by nearly a full second.
Elizabeth Miller (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) and Riley Fujioka (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) finished first and second, respecitively in the 1-meter dive, while Naomi Peng (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) and Fujioka both finished in the top three in the 3-meter event.
Georgetown's men were led by Andrew Stange (St. James, N.Y./Saint Anthony's), who won the 200-yard freestyle by more than a second and finished second in the 100-yard freestyle, just .31 seconds out of first. Drew Carbone (Chelmsford, Mass./Central Catholic) picked up the squad's other individual victory in the 200-yard IM, beating his opponent from GW by a narrow, .17-second margin.
Both of GU's relay teams turned in second-place finishes. The quartet of Carbone, Arthur Wang (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington), Justin Summers (Weston, Conn./Weston) and Seth Maslowski (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) took silver in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Jack Calderwood (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit), Summers, Jacob Kohlhoff (Tega Clay, N.C./Fort Mill) and Stange finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Hoyas will return to the pool on Saturday, January 20, when they host Drexel University at McCarthy Pool. The dual meet will begin at 1 p.m. It will be Georgetown's final home meet of the season and the Blue & Gray will recognize its 19 seniors in a Senior Day ceremony.
