Hoyas Clinch Four Major BIG EAST Awards, Six Hoyas Earn Spots on All-BIG EAST Team

WASHINGTON – Three Georgetown University women's soccer players were named BIG EAST Players of the Year on Saturday as six Hoyas were named to the All-BIG EAST Team. Additionally, Georgetown Head Coach Dave Nolan and his coaching staff were named the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year. Senior Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, junior Meaghan Nally (Herndon, Va. / South Lakes) was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and senior Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day / UCLA) was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year for the second year in a row.

The unbeaten No. 4 Hoyas finished the regular season on Thursday with an overall record of 15-0-3 and 8-0-1 in the league.

Farrell leads the Hoyas, as well as the BIG EAST, with 32 points and 15 goals, 10 of which were scored in league play, accompanied by a pair of assists. The senior scored six game-winning goals this season and ranks third in the NCAA in the category. Farrell sits sixth nationally in the active leaders list of total goals this year. She was the only player on the All-BIG EAST First Team this year to be unanimously selected. The forward earned five nods to the league's weekly honors this season, including three BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week recognitions. Farrell earned a spot on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team earlier this season, as well as the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. This is her second year in a row that she made the All-BIG EAST First Team and third year in a row being named to the All-BIG EAST Team.

Nally anchored a Georgetown defense that limited its conference foes to an average of just 7.7 shots per game and 69 total shots from conference opponents. The defense allowed a league-best of just two goals from two different BIG EAST opponents to get by them on the back end, surrendering to Creighton and Marquette. Nally earned three nods to the weekly honors this season, including two Defensive Player of the Week recognitions. Earlier this season, the junior was named the Preseason All-BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. She sits on the team with six points from two goals and two assists on the year. This is Nally's second year in a row being named to the All-BIG EAST Team.

Schechtman finished the regular season 8-0-1 at goal in league play, recording seven shutouts against BIG EAST foes and 12 overall this year. She sits atop the category at Georgetown with 44 total shutouts. In her 839 minutes as goalkeeper during conference play this season, Schechtman has allowed just two goals from opponents while registering a .210 GAA, a .941 save percentage and 32 saves. She leads the NCAA Division I active career list in shutouts and save percentage and is second in GAA. She has earned five BIG EAST Weekly Awards this season, four of which were Goalkeeper of the Week recognitions. The senior was named the Preseason All-BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year in August. This is her third All-BIG EAST honor after being named the Goalkeeper of the Year last year as well.

Joining Farrell, Nally and Schechtman on the first team was junior Paula Germino-Watnick (Chevy Chase, Md. / Bethesda-Chevy Chase). The junior midfielder ranks third on the team with 12 points from four goals and four assists and has appeared in all nine league games. Germino-Watnick recorded a game-high of two goals and an assist in a 7-1 victory at Creighton.

Graduate student Kyra Carusa (San Diego, Calif. / Del Norte / Stanford) was named Second Team All-BIG EAST. The forward ranks second on the team with 21 points from seven goals and seven assists. She has started all 18 games this season. Carusa recorded a game-high of three assists at Creighton earlier this season.

Carusa is joined by sophomore Grace Nguyen (Lilburn, Ga. / Parkview) on the second team, who has recorded seven points this season off of a goal and five assists, with all but one assist occurring during BIG EAST play. Nguyen has appeared in all nine conference games this season and has played a major role in each contest as a midfielder.

Nolan and his coaching staff have earned BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year for the third time in program history. He is joined by assistant coaches Lyndse Hokanson and Kristen Meier, along with volunteer assistant coach Alex Minton. Nolan and his staff have led the Blue & Gray to two-straight BIG EAST Regular Season Championship titles and BIG EAST Championship titles, with the most recent regular season championship title occurring this season. Georgetown, who was picked to finish first in the conference in the preseason BIG EAST poll, started the season at No. 22 in the NCAA and currently sit at the No. 4 spot, the team's highest ranking in program history.

The Blue & Gray will host the BIG EAST Championship semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 1 at Shaw Field after earning a bye in the quarterfinals. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. The Hoyas will face the winner of fourth-seeded Xavier and fifth-seeded DePaul, which will be determined on Sunday in the quarterfinals. Thursday's game will be broadcast live on BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) with Monika Moore and John Fanta calling the play-by-play and live stats will also be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
