ARLINGTON, Va. - The Georgetown University baseball team outhit George Washington and led for the first six innings, but ultimately fell, 6-3, to the Colonials on Tuesday afternoon at GW's Barcroft Park in Arlington, Virginia. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 0-7 on the season, while the Colonials improve to 2-5.

Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas/Marcus) started on mound and went six-plus innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits. He struck out six and walked just one. Kevin Superko (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley/Phillips Andover) gave up one run in 1.1 innings of relief, striking out two. Jimmy Swad (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) retired both batters he faced.

Austin Shirley (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga) led the offense with a three-hit performance. Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) had a pair of doubles and Sammy Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice) also had two hits. Jake Bernstein (Frederick, Md./St. John's College HS) was on base three times with a double, hit-by-pitch and walk.

The Hoya offense got off to a quick start as the first three batters reached to start the game in the top of the first. Shirley led things off with a double down the right field line. Bernstein followed with a four-pitch walk before Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) lined a single into center to score Shirley and give GU a 1-0 lead.

Georgetown loaded the bases with nobody out in the fourth inning on two errors and a walk. A fielder's choice by James Gabor (Wyndmoor, Pa./William Penn Charter School) eventually scored McCabe to give the Blue & Gray a 2-0 advantage.

The Hoyas extended their lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning. Bernstein was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame and went to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, McCabe lined a double over the right fielder's head to push Bernstein across the plate.

The Colonials got a run back in the fifth before taking the lead in the seventh inning on a grand slam. They added an insurance run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth to go up 6-3.

Georgetown put two runners on in both the eighth and ninth innings, but could not push across any runs.

The Hoyas will depart on Thursday for their 10-day, seven-game spring break trip to the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida. The Blue & Gray will take on Mount St. Mary's (March 3, 3 p.m.), Dartmouth (March 4, 11:30 a.m.), Northeastern (March 6, 4 p.m.), Western Michigan (March 7 and 9, noon) and Saint Joseph's (March 10/11, 2 p.m./noon).
