BETHESDA, Md. - The Georgetown University baseball team split a doubleheader with Princeton University on Saturday afternoon at Shirley Povich Field. The Hoyas took game one, 3-1, before the Tigers won game two, 10-4. With the results, GU moves to 4-14 on the season, while Princeton is now 2-8.

Game One: Georgetown 3, Princeton 1 (7 innings)
Brent Killam (Nokomis, Fla./Venice) fired a complete game and the Hoyas scored in each of the first two innings to take game one, 3-1.

Killam allowed just one run on three hits while tying a career high with six strikeouts. He retired 11-straight Princeton batters at one point and needed just 83 pitches in the seven-inning effort.

Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the offense.

Georgetown jumped out to a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and second innings. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases in the bottom of the first before a sacrifice fly by Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) drove in the first run. In the second inning, Ryan Weisenberg (Parkland, Fla./San Ramon Valley [Calif.]) walked, went to second on a passed ball and third on an error. He came around to score on a two-out RBI single by Davis.

Princeton got a run back in the fifth, but the Hoyas answered right back with an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning. Davis led off with a double and went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley). A pinch-hit single by Alex Gamache (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest Academy), his first career hit, provided the final score, 3-1.

Game Two: Princeton 10, Georgetown 4
Despite a three-hit performance by Austin Shirley (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga), the Hoyas could not overcome an early deficit, falling in game two, 10-4.

Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas/Marcus) started on the mound and went 4.1 innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits while striking out one. Jacob Grzebinski (Bellaire, Texas/Emery Weiner) fired 4.2 innings in relief, allowing three runs on four hits with two strikeouts.

Shirley's three hits led GU's offense and went along with an RBI and a run scored. Ryan P. Davis had his second multi-hit effort of the day with a pair of base knocks.

Princeton opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first on three hits and a walk. The Tigers added a run on a sacrifice fly in the third inning and three more in the fifth to extend their lead to 7-0.

The Hoyas put up single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to cut the deficit to 7-2. Weisenberg reached on an error in the fifth and eventually scored on an RBI single by Shirley. In the sixth, Weisenberg delivered a two-out, run-scoring single to push Sammy Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice), who had doubled, across the plate.

After the Tigers answered with a three-run seventh inning, GU came back with two more runs in the bottom half of the seventh. Singles by Shirley and Ryan P. Davis led things off before Ryan M. Davis lined a double down the left field line to score Shirley. Two batters later, an RBI ground out by Freddy Achecar III (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett School) make it 10-4.

Georgetown put base runners on in each of the final two innings, but could not score.

The two teams will conclude the four-game series on Sunday with a doubleheader. First pitch in game one is set for 1 p.m., and game two will start shortly after the conclusion of the first contest. Live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.

Notes -- With his 5-for-8 effort in Saturday's doubleheader, Ryan P. Davis' season batting average rose 179 points from .154 to .333.
