WASHINGTON - Georgetown University women's rowing opened the spring racing season in dominating fashion, sweeping every event at the Occoquan Sprints on Sunday. The Hoyas finished 1-2 in the Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ events.

"This race was a great way to open our season for both our openweights and lightweights," Interim Head Coach Carolyn Glandorf said. "The lightweights were able to show off their hard work and we are excited to see how well they can do this coming weekend against Radcliffe after such a strong finish in all three crews. The openweights made some great improvements across the board and are hungry to keep going."

Georgetown's toughest competition was itself as two of the three finals were decided by less than three seconds between the lightweight and openweight squads. The varsity 8+'s closest non-GU competitor was 23.98 seconds behind, the second varsity 8+ won by 23.77 seconds over George Mason and the varsity 4+ winner saw GMU finish 45.32 seconds after they crossed the finish line.

The lightweight squad returns to action on Saturday, March 31 as it faces Harvard Radcliffe for the Class of 2004 Cup in Boston, while the openweights return to the water on April 6 at the GW Invite.
