PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Georgetown University baseball team outhit its opponent for the third-consecutive game, but could not find the big hit as the Hoyas dropped a 4-1 decision to Dartmouth on Sunday. The game was played as part of the Snowbird Baseball Classic at North Charlotte Regional Park in Port Charlotte, Florida. With the loss, GU falls to 0-9 on the season, while the Big Green improve to 2-4.
Kevin Superko (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley/Phillips Andover) started on the mound and went 5.0 strong innings, allowing just two runs, one earned, on three hits, while striking out four. Jimmy Swad (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts and Conor Cuse (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Harvard-Westlake/Stanford) fired a perfect inning with one strikeout.
Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) led the offense with three hits.
For the second-straight game, the Hoyas jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning. Austin Shirley (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga) led things off with a double and went to third on a perfect bunt by Jake Bernstein (Frederick, Md./St. John's College HS). He came home on a RBI ground out by Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley).
Superko shut Dartmouth down until the fifth inning when two runs scored on an error to give the Big Green a 2-1 lead. They added two more in the sixth inning off of Beau Dana (Marblehead, Mass./Deerfield Academy).
Georgetown put runners on in two of the final four innings, on singles by Richie O'Reilly (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Loyola HS), McCabe and Michael DeRenzi (Mendham, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), but could not bunch them together to score any more runs.
